Team & Contacts

Manage people under Account → Users. This section is visible to account owners only.

Two kinds of people

Can sign inCounts toward your plan's user limitCan receive alerts
UserYesYesYes
ContactNoNoYes

A user is a colleague who works in Pingniner — they can view, add and edit monitors.

A contact exists only to be notified. They cannot sign in and cannot see anything. Use contacts for an on-call phone, a shared alias, a client who wants to hear about their own site, or anyone who needs the alert but not the tool.

TIP

Contacts are unlimited on every plan. If you are hitting your user limit but only need somewhere to send alerts, add a contact instead of upgrading.

Roles

RoleDescription
Account OwnerFull access, including billing and user management. Cannot be edited or deleted from this screen.
UserCan view, add and update monitoring resources
ContactCannot sign in; receives notifications only

Adding someone

  1. Go to Account → Users and click Add User/Contact.
  2. Enter their Name and Email, then confirm the email.
  3. Choose whether they are Authenticatable:
    • On — they can sign in. Counts toward your plan's user limit.
    • Off — they become a contact: alerts only, no login, no limit.
  4. Create.
  5. Use Edit on their row to set their notification channels and uptime report preferences.

Channels are deliberately a second step — the create form only collects identity. A person added as a contact does not receive a sign-in invitation, because they cannot sign in.

WARNING

A new user or contact has no notification channels set, so they will not be reached until you edit them. Adding someone to your account does not by itself send them anything — they also have to be selected in a trigger's Contacts list.

Converting a contact into a user

Use the Convert action on the contact's row. This:

  • Generates a password
  • Marks them able to sign in
  • Emails them their credentials

This counts against your plan's user limit, so it will fail if you are at the cap.

INFO

There is no reverse action in the interface. To turn a user back into a contact, open a support ticket.

Notification settings for other people

Notification channels are set after the person exists. Creating a user or contact asks only for their name and email; use Edit on their row to set their channels — email, Pushover, Telegram, Slack, Microsoft Teams, Google Chat, Discord and generic webhook — plus their uptime report preferences.

Every channel available on My Profile is available here too, so a contact can use any of them.

Users can change their own settings afterwards under My Profile. Contacts cannot, since they cannot sign in, so their channels are managed entirely by you.

TIP

This is what makes contacts useful. A contact called "On-call" pointed at a Discord or Slack webhook gives you a single alerting destination you can attach to any trigger, without it counting toward your plan's user limit.

Using people in triggers

Once someone exists, select them in the Contacts field on any trigger. That is what actually causes them to be notified — adding someone to your account does not by itself send them anything.

A common setup:

  • A contact called "On-call" with a webhook pointing at your paging system, on every Down-impact trigger
  • Individual users on the monitors they own
  • A contact for each client on their own site's triggers

Removing someone

Use Delete on their row. This removes them from the account and from every trigger's contact list.

The account owner cannot be deleted here — see Billing if you are closing the account.

Plan limits

The user count includes the owner. A Pro plan's "4 users" is you plus three colleagues. Contacts are unlimited. See Plans & Limits.

Multiple accounts

A person can belong to more than one Pingniner account. When they do, an account switcher appears in the interface. Their uptime reports cover every account they belong to in a single email.

Monitoring done right.
